A Little Harmless FascinationA Little Harmless Fascination by Melissa Schroeder
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Security expert and former FBI Agent Conner Dillon is in the hospital suffering from chest pains ~ the result of being a complete workaholic. Doctor's orders: A month of rest and relaxation away from the stresses of his job!! Connors' sister, Maura, nags him into going to Hawaii for that rest. Her best friend and former college roommate, Jillian, owns a home on Oahu and rents out the upper floor to tourists occasionally. Jillian is a writer of erotic books. She is free-spirited with tattoos and piercings ~ the polar opposite of Conner.

Conner rents the upper floor of Jillian's home and she resides on the floor below ~ close enough to get their imaginations running wild. Jillian has had a crush on Conner since college and knows he is a Dom. Even though interested in him, she is unsure if she could ever give complete control to anyone, as she has major trust issues and lots of family problems. Conner is afraid to approach her romantically knowing she is his sister's best friend and the last thing he wants to do is ruin that friendship if things go badly.

Hawaii is the perfect 'garden of Eden' for these two characters and you can just imagine the surrounding beauty as Melissa Schroeder writes out Conner and Jillian's story. Their story also has a bit of mystery, as Jillian's life if being threatened and Conner must find out who before he loses Jillian.

Melissa Schroeder has, once again, written a well thought out, hotly romantic, and suspenseful read. When you can read a book cover to cover in one sitting ~ that is a good book!!!

Good Grief! It has been way too long since I visited my blog site, as it fell to the wayside of so much sadness, upset, hurt feelings, and distraction. I will not go into all of the events other than to say that I have learned and grown, which at the end of the day is pretty important. Thanks to my darling daughter, I am having new and exciting adventures. She has given me something to keep my mental facalities from going stagnant and dull, which I completely appreciate because the last thing a person wants is to become BORING! This is the new me signing off!!

Vacations ~ Part 1

So ~ we are in California (San Diego to be exact) and having a great time. The trip out was fairly easy and enjoyable, we stayed overnight in Yuma, Arizona at the Desert Rose on the way over.

I have very much enjoyed hanging out with the girls, talking about girl stuff, doing girl stuff and just being a girl.  Myrna and Gayle are fun girls to hang out with and there is usually a lot of laughing when we are together.  Sitting and chatting with the two of them makes me realize how much I miss having girlfriends around. Sadly, Gayle will be leaving on Tuesday so I guess Myrna and I will have to entertain ourselves..... :-(

Even as big as San Diego is Myrna knows where to get the very best deals on anything and everything you could think of checking out. The three of us have enjoyed shopping and lunching out ~ the Navy Exchange is completely awesome and we even entered a drawing to win a Michael Kors purse.  Geez I hope I win!!!  While at the Navy Exchange I bought the most darling shoes for Summer wear ~ can't wait to show them off!! Gayle and Myrna also bought the same shoes and we think we all look pretty awesome!

Mostly we have cooked meals in, which is much more cost effective but last night we all went out to dinner at a place Patrick loves ~ Buds. It is food from Louisiana ~ crawfish, catfish, Jalapeno cornbread muffins, and Creole dishes. I have to say it was pretty tasty. The interesting thing about this restaurant is that it is located in the business district and you would not actually know it was a restaurant as the building is fairly nondescript. Nonetheless, a good time was had by all.

This afternoon Patrick (who is a pilot) took Matthew and Larry up in one of the planes in his Flying Club, of which he is the President.  I am pretty sure Matthew completely enjoyed himself as it was a first for him. They flew over the house but, of course, did not let us know so we did not go outside and wave at them ~ that would have made Matthew's day I am sure.

Do not know what is on tap for tomorrow but I am sure we will find something fun and exciting to do. Hubby and I have gotten up each morning and walked one to two miles ~ a pretty big deal since the trails are all ups and downs. To say the least, my butt is sore, sore, sore!!

"Rest in Peace"

"Rest in Peace" by Frances Devine will be released on April 1, 2011. The following is my review of an advance copy from NetGalley.  My favorite style of writing is mystery and suspense, which is one of the reasons I requested an advance copy of this particular body of work.

"In Cedar Chapel, where Victoria Storm runs a senior boardinghouse, things are quiet. That is, until she enters the local pet store and finds Clyde Foster, the owner, dead, and his parrot, Whatzit, frantically screeching. What clues will this bird reveal regarding a murder most foul? Unable to resist a mystery, Victoria, her fiancé Benjamin, and her senior cohorts begin their own investigation, landing them headfirst in a dangerous adventure. When their friend Miss Aggie disappears, leaving a blood-stained trail, no one seems safe. Will Victoria live long enough to unravel the clues and tie the knot?"

"Rest in Peace" is a light and fun mystery, which very much reminded me of the Agatha Christie novels.  Ms. Devine's writing did not disappoint in that the story was completely formed and kept my attention from beginning to end, which is to say there were no boring sections that would make me put the book down and not pick it up again. Throughout the book I kept changing my mind as to who I thought the culprit might be.

I completely loved the relationship between Victoria and the senior citizens who reside at the boardinghouse. Their insistence upon helping Victoria work out the mystery by going with her each time she either went to the scene of the crime or to the Sheriff's office was fun and endearing.

On the side of romance, poor Victoria and Benjamin were in the middle of trying to plan their wedding when Clyde Foster was murdered.  Benjamin is not all that thrilled with Victoria getting herself and the seniors involved in solving mysteries, let along getting him involved as well!

This book would get a rating of FOUR out of FIVE stars from me and I highly recommend it to those of you who enjoy light mystery reading.

Spring has Sprung!!

Spring has definitely sprung for me as evidenced by my allergies having kicked in like a Mack truck ~ runny and red nose, sneezing, coughing, watery and swollen eyes.  In fact, this morning hubby said that I looked just like a little oriental woman.  Yesterday I started on my allergy medication Zyrtec along with eye drops for allergies. Unfortunately, it takes a few days for these medications to work their magic so I will just have to resort to wearing extra dark sunglasses as to not shock people who might glance my way.

My biggest hope is that these symptoms will be a thing of the past by the time we head out to California next week ~ wish me luck!!

Thanks for Listening.
